Research position for 24 months in the field of "Telemedicine/Telerehabilitation", assessing its impact on frailty in elderly patients with congestive heart failure and/or acute coronary syndrome.

Job description
Very old patients with cardiovascular diseases (CVD) have higher mortality and risk for disability after hospitalizations. This increased vulnerability is termed frailty, and it is frequent in older patients with CVD.

Frailty, defined as an increased vulnerability to stressors by a decrease in physiological reserves of multiple body systems, is an independent predictor of autonomy loss and poor prognosis including death.

Only spared data suggest that frailty can be reversed, thus further studies are needed on interventions potentially useful in reversing frailty.

Secondary prevention and cardiac rehabilitation programmes improve prognosis. However, several barriers exist in their implementation, particularly in elderly and frail patients. Digital-based Telemedicine and Telerehabilitation could potentially reduce existing barriers in elderly CVD patients reverting frailty.

The IRCCS MultiMedica is a centre of excellence for cardiovascular research and care and offers a highly stimulating scientific environment that supports the close interactions between healthcare providers according to a multidisciplinary approach.

The activity will be developed in the Cardiovascular Department which includes all facilities necessary for high-level cardiovascular medicine.

Profile requested

Graduation as physiotherapist
Previous experiences in telemedicine programs will represent elements of merit.
A strong attitude in working independently and in collaboration is mandatory.
