Overview of Role

  • To manage the operation of assigned ships
  • To ensure that assigned ships are operated and maintained in accordance with the Company's policies requirements and all relevant maritime regulations and requirements to approved levels of performance and cost
  • To ensure that vessels of his fleet are operated to meet the budget and performance standards as established for each vessel
  • To ensure in cooperation with the Marine department that the Company's Safety & Quality Management System is fully implemented in accordance with established policies

Key Responsibilities

The main duties will be:

OPERATIONS
To ensure that ships in his fleet comply with all required safety standards that equipment on board is correctly maintained and operated and that adequate spares are provided To establish and maintain the optimum economic storing of vessel

To cooperate with marine superintendent and to be fully familiar with IMO National and Class requirements appertaining to his fleet and that his vessels comply with such requirements

To monitor the vessel performance of his fleet to investigate variances from the required standard and ensure that appropriate corrective action is taken

To evaluate spares and stores requisitions authorise purchases and monitor expenditure ensuring costs are controlled within budget levels

To ensure that effective levels of communication are maintained between ships and offices and to respond appropriately to any such communications

To analyse factors affecting the performance of his vessels and to determine how improvements could be achieved

To conduct inspections of his vessels ascertaining conditions and ensuring correct working procedures are adhered to To prepare a report of such inspections using the Company's approved forms keeping the Fleet Manager and Senior Management informed of his findings

To check certificate or other periodic renewal dates for his vessels

To be available for travel to other vessels for inspections and/or repairs as required

To inform Fleet Manager and Senior Management of any emergency or incident that may cause loss or delay


MAINTENANCE
To ensure that assigned vessels are maintained to Company Owners Statutory and Class requirements by correct maintenance procedures

To keep the Fleet Manager informed of assigned vessels' drydock timing and requirements and of any major repairs whilst afloat

At the appropriate time to produce a comprehensive drydock specification (inclusive of ship's repair lists rectification of damages and Class requirements) to be approved by Fleet Manager To manage any guarantee claims procedures liaising with Fleet Manager and Insurance Manager

To organise the drydock programme and guarantee repairs programme

To attend vessels during the drydock period ensuring that repairs are carried out according to repair specifications and that costs are controlled within specification figures


CREW:

To ensure the Crew Department is aware of any special circumstances of skills requirement for service on board his vessels

To ensure that senior officers are familiar with their responsibilities and fully aware of the systems routines and procedures to be used on board and maintain overall functional control of Masters and Chief Engineers

To evaluate the performance ability and suitability of crewmembers and ensure the Crew Manager for his vessels is informed of his assessment To co-operate with Crew Manager regarding selections promotions and training of ships staff

To complete assessment reports on the senior officers on his vessels in conjunction with Marine Supt using the Company Standard Performance R10 SAFETY & 4


ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION:

To assist in the implementation and maintenance of the S&Q System and programmes both in the office and on board his assigned ships (including ship audits and SEP inspections)

To ensure that the Master his officers and crew are provided with adequate office based operational support to enable them to operate in a safe and efficient manner with due regard for safety of the crew the vessel and the protection of the environment

To ensure the safety and pollution prevention aspects of vessel operation supporting and providing assistance to the ship's Master as necessary in conjunction and liaison with the S&Q

To act as a member of the Emergency Back-up Team during an emergency


BUDGETS:

To prepare and participate in the budget process preparing estimates as required ensuring that any special circumstances concerning his vessels are taken into account

To monitor expenditure ensuring he is aware at all times of actual costs and to keep expenditure within budget lev
