About The Role:

Zespri Global Supply (ZGS) is responsible for supplying kiwifruit to Zespri in the New Zealand off-season. ZGS has operations in Italy, France, Greece, Japan and Korea. The supply volumes and numbers of growers is increasingly rapidly as new orchards come into production.

ZGS needs to establish a community engagement strategy to build and maintain a positive corporate reputation among growers, suppliers, customers, local and central government and our communities.

Initially focused on the EU as our biggest growing regions, the role will lead the establishment and implementation of a community engagement strategy for ZGS and provide communication support to ZGS and Zespri International Europe (ZIE).


There will be a focus on ensuring that Zespri has a strong role in social responsibility throughout our northern hemisphere supply chain.

The role will ensure there are strong connections are in place with industry, external stakeholders and our communities to monitor the effectiveness of Zespri's social responsibility strategy through consistent and effective communication and relationships.


In addition, the role will be involved in the development and implementation of a communication strategy for ZGS and will provide communication support to in-market teams dealing with ZGS supply issues.

Working closely with the core Zespri communication team based in New Zealand, the role will support market teams to respond to requests from media and/or customers in the same time zone.


Accountabilities:


Community Engagement

  • Establish and implement a community engagement programme for ZGS Europe with a specific focus on social responsibility
  • Identify and engage with key stakeholders including unions, local and national agencies, worker welfare agencies
  • Support community engagement initiatives as required for ZGS Asia
  • Prepare resources to outline Zespri's commitment to worker welfare and support the community engagement programme
  • Monitor media activity and initiatives in Europe on Social Responsibility
  • Consider establishing or joining an industry/retail initiative(s) that collectively focusses on improving worker welfare

Communication

  • Contribute to the development of the ZGS communication strategy and lead some aspects of the implementation
  • Manage the regular communication portfolio for ZGS Europe and Asia (including Kiwiflier, NZ Kiwifruit Journal, Annual Report)
  • Provide communication support and translation to ZGS Europe teams including for Chairman's Updates, Roadshows
  • Following guidance from the Zespri communication team, provide timely communications support to ZIE for management of enquiries including media and customers within Europe

Qualifications & Experience:

We are looking for an energetic individual who holds a communications or journalism qualification although relevant experience and proven ability will be a key determinant


You will also have:

  • Strong relationshipbuilding and writing skills and a good mind for strategy, process and organisation
  • A positive, supportive team player with initiative and plenty of enthusiasm and a willingness to tackle a wide variety of tasks
  • Proven Project and Time Management skills
  • Ability to manage and manipulate data
  • Written and verbal fluency in Italian and English at a conversational, business and technical level. French also preferred.
  • An understanding of the kiwifruit industry or wider horticulture sector is beneficial but not a requirement
