The Associate Director, Corporate Counsel is a member of PPD's Legal Department and provides support on a variety of legal matters.

The Corporate Counsel will support PPD, with a focus on Clinical and Patient Advisory Services.

In some cases, this role will have primary responsibility for a matter and deliver legal advice and services directly to the PPD clinical research services business.

For other matters, the Corporate Counsel role will work with and under the direction of other lawyers in the PPD clinical research services Legal Department (including lawyers who are not their line manager) who have primary responsibility for the matter in question.

The Corporate Counsel will also have primary responsibility for developing, implementing, and managing the PPD clinical research services Legal Department's social responsibility and philanthropy initiatives.

This is a hybrid role which can be performed from our Inchinnan (Scotland), Sofia (Bulgaria) or Milan (Italy) office.

The Corporate Counsel's functions will include the following:

  • Provide general legal support to Clinical and Patient Advisory Services for business operations and initiatives globally
  • Negotiate vendor agreements supporting the PPD clinical research services business, with a focus on arrangements in Europe, Middle East and Africa ("EMEA")
  • Advise PPD clinical research services' real estate and facilities team on matters in EMEA and Latin America
  • Support PPD clinical research services' regulatory and quality assurance teams on clinical research related matters
  • Support subsidiary management related activities for PPD clinical research services, which may include leading certain initiatives and liaising with the Thermo Fisher Scientific company secretarial team on others
  • Support PPD clinical research services on corporate compliance matters relating to PPD clinical research services' conflict of interest and antibribery/anticorruption related programs
  • Manage litigation and prelitigation disputes with third parties arising in EMEA and Latin America
  • Provide support on acquisitions, investments and other complex commercial transactional matters

Education and Experience:

  • LLB, Juris Doctorate (or international equivalent)
  • Previous legal experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 78+ total years of attorney experience)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with complex commercial transactional matters ideally involving multiple countries/jurisdictions
  • Experience with subsidiary management and corporate compliance matters
  • Prior high quality law firm and/or inhouse legal training and experience
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations and industry standards governing clinical research, such as EMA regulations, ICH Guidelines, and GCP
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills and strong attention to detail with proven ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and effectively
  • Must be flexible and able to reprioritize workload to meet changing project needs
  • Skillful and proven MS Excel and MS Word skills
  • Excellent English and grammar skills (language skills in addition to English are helpful for this position given the number of jurisdictions PPD clinical research services operates in)
  • Superb analytical and decision based thinking
  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills that requires little to no oversight
  • Must be able to work independently and as a team player
