Organizational Setting


The Partnerships and UN Collaboration Division (PSU) is FAO's hub to ensure rights-based and sustainable development for all, leaving no one behind.

PSU builds transformative partnerships and proactively engages with key stakeholders, including family farmers, Indigenous Peoples, parliamentarians, academia, research institutions, UN organizations and civil society.


PSU drives a people-centred approach through technical support, capacity development, policy advice and inclusive dialogue.

All of this serves importantly to enhance countries' capacity to end hunger, malnutrition and poverty and achieve more inclusive and sustainable agrifood systems, with and for the people.


Partnerships Unit (PSUP) supports to strengthen FAO's strategic engagements with non-state actors, namely Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Academic and Research Institutions in the context of the FAO Strategic Framework.


This post is located in the Partnerships Unit (PSUP) of the Partnerships and UN Collaboration Division (PSU) at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy.


Reporting Lines


The Partnership Officer reports to the Partnership Officer (Cooperatives and Producers), the Head of the
PSUP Unit of the Partnerships and UN Collaboration Division (PSU).

He/she will be required to work with other centres/divisions/offices at headquarters and FAO Regional Offices and Decentralized Offices.


Technical Focus

  • Strengthen and foster partnerships with Non-State Actors (NSA) in support of the FAO Strategic Framework;
  • Provide policy support, share knowledge and good practices on transformative partnerships with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Academic and Research Institutions;
  • Monitor partnerships with NSAs at all levels and report to key internal and external stakeholders on results.

Key Results


Increased and strengthened strategic partnerships with national, regional and international Non-State Actors to support implementation of the FAO Strategic Framework and the achievement of the 2030 Agenda.


Key Functions

  • Contributes to identifying, with the appropriate technical centres/divisions/offices, possible collaborations and partnerships for the fulfilment of the FAO Strategic Framework, both at headquarters and Decentralized Offices.
  • Helps to build and maintain relations with a diverse set of partners relevant to FAO's work in order to enhance and upscale the results contemplated in the FAO Strategic Framework at local, national, regional and global levels.
  • Supports the identification, promotion and development of strategic linkages and synergies between various stakeholders and the FAO Strategic Framework, regional initiatives and FAO's Country Programming Frameworks (CPFs).
  • Assists in preparing briefs, presentations and other documents explaining the policies, trends and opportunities for engagement with various stakeholders in response to FAO Programme Priority Areas and needs and briefs FAO senior management.
  • Contributes to the analyses the quality, consistency and appropriateness of partnership materials, activities, processes and messages shared with partners.
  • Contributes to the analysis of existing processes of working collaboratively with partners and stakeholders, including meetings, joint projects, information sharing, etc. and proposes improvements.
  • Contributes to the identification and analysis of potential transformative partnership opportunities with various stakeholders and partners, nurture existing partnerships and monitor their engagement.
