About The Role:

Zespri kiwifruit is New Zealand's largest horticultural export and is distributed to over 54 countries around the world.

As part of the leadership team in Italy, this role will lead the Innovation team's research initiatives to optimize production of kiwifruit and support the successful implementation of Zespri's 12-month European supply strategy.

The role will have oversight across the Innovation portfolios of Sustainable Production and Sustainable Supply, with matrix responsibilities over Industry Resilience and Future Growing Systems.

Zespri has experience of kiwifruit production in Europe and aims to improve productivity and quality of European kiwifruit through research and development.

Knowledge on kiwifruit production can be transferred from New Zealand's experience; however, Europe is challenged by different soil and climatic conditions which bring with them unique productivity challenges to be overcome.

This role will be expected to direct and work with local and international research providers to initiate, and project manage research into prioritized areas of kiwifruit production.

An important aspect of the role is to bridge relationships between Zespri and its research partners in both Europe and New Zealand, to work with present collaborators and to identify other leading science groups in the desired fields of research.

Accountabilities:

Develop strategy and plans

Define opportunities (issues and opportunities we are addressing)
Define target offering (how we will be addressing those issues and opportunities)
Develop initial view of deployment pathways (how we will roll it out and protect IP)
Define teaming, partner and funding needs
Define targets and KPIs
Own and implement agreed innovation plans

Allocate and monitor budget allocations

Make resourcing and budget requests through innovation planning sprints and annual budgeting process
Implement budget allocations within the portfolio
Track portfoliolevel benefits, ensuring returns are met at the portfolio level

Lead individual projects through end-to-end innovation process

Drive ideation process, including research, experimentation, partner engagement and collaboration
Drive the development of specific solutions to address customer, company or industry opportunities and threats
Work with the business to deploy the solutions through the validation and scaling phases, with a wellmanaged handover to the broader business
Track, manage and communicate benefit realization
Undertake postimplementation reviews and use findings to improve portfolio performance over time
Capture relevant knowledge and share in knowledge management system
Drive and collaborate on sustainability agenda across portfolios

Manage the innovation process steps

Manage projects, including liaison and coordination of advisory groups, project leaders and project team members, monitoring of milestones and report production
Establish and lead the crossfunctional portfolio team
Coordinate broader organizational input into the portfolio
Regularly report to and engage with senior internal audiences, including the Innovation Steering Committee and Board Innovation Subcommittee (BIS)
