Aurelio Di Paola

My name is Aurelio Di Paola and I am a 47 year old economist, with more than 20 years of professional experience in world’s leading consulting firms having the chance to take part to major EU projects in the rail transport sector. For 10 years I was engaged in Pricewaterhouse Coopers Advisory, where I specialized in economic and financial evaluation of project financings, private public partnerships, in the planning and the evaluation of investment programs for the development of transport networks and logistic platforms and the business process reingeneering in the transport and logistic sector. In this framework I developed strong competencies in evaluating public investments in transport and logistics infrastructure projects as well as wide knowledge of EU transport and logistics policies. In 2016, thanks to such experience in the railway transport sector, RFI which is the Italian national railway infrastructure manager, assigned me with the role of Program Implementation Manager of Scanmed Rail Freight Corridor with the specific task of taking the lead of the coordination of the activities to be carried out to comply with the provisions of EU Regulation (EU) No. 913/2010 concerning a European rail network for competitive freight. In this context I was appointed as the primary point of reference to dialogue and interact with other IMs involved in the implementation of the Scanmed RFC as well as of supporting the preparation of both the decisions to be made by the Corridor’s decision making bodies (Management Board) and the infoformation to be given to the Advisory Groups of terminals and railway undertakings. In April 2019 I was hired by RNE to take over the position of TTR/TCR Manager within Rail Net Europe and I had the opportunity to lead and coordinate Working Groups in charge for TTR Implementation such as in particular the TTR Core Team and Pilot Board, the TTR National Implementation Managers Group and the TCR WG. In 2022 I was awarded by Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane as one of the 5 best inventors thanks to an idea I presented, and which is currently under development, to promote rail freight transport through a digital platform for the e-booking of loading spaces on rail freight wagons.
