Informazioni su Sophie Sweatman:
My name is Sophie Sweatman and I am a graduate of the University of SSML di Vicenza. I received my Bachelor’s degree in linguistic mediation for translation and interpretation in English, German, and Italian and graduated with a final score of 108 out of 110. I wrote two final theses for my final discussion and defense. My first thesis is a transcription table and subtitling for a section of a children’s movie. For this thesis, I translated a portion of a film into English and created matching subtitles for the audio-visual. I post-edited a machine-generated translation of a German economic text from the DIHK into Italian for my second thesis.
On top of my education, I also completed an internship as a translator and post-editor at the Public Affairs Office on the US Army base Caserma Ederle in Vicenza, Italy. As an intern, I had to work alongside my colleagues to create English translations of Italian articles published in the Italian newspaper Il Giornale di Vicenza. The purpose was to create a newspaper in English meant for the Americans unable to read or understand Italian stationed at the US Army base. During this time, I had to learn to quickly produce translated articles while working with new colleagues and making my own decisions on which articles to translate.
Esperienza
I've worked at the Public Affairs Office on the Caserma Ederle base in Vicenza, Italy to translate Italian articles published in the local Italian newspaper into English. While working there, I had to communicate with my colleagues to ensure none of us were translating the same article by mistake and to share opinions on which articles seemed the most important to translate into English for the American community in Vicenza to read. I also had to pay close attention to meeting all the deadlines and being flexible when needed.
Istruzione
Completing my university classes and internship prepared me for my future as a professional translator and interpreter. During class, we practiced active and simultaneous interpretation as well as translation with the use of MT and CAT tools. At my internship we only translated, so I put my skills with MT and CAT tools to use to create the best possible translations.
