2020-2021

Research Intern - Computational Fluid Dynamics Engineer

The work of Master’s thesis was part of the project POR FESR 2014-2020 HyPOWERED. Benefited from specific funds from Regione Emilia-Romagna the aim of this work was realize a Numerical Model using CFD techniques for the simulation of combustion processes that involved mixtures of hydrogen and natural gas within a burner for domestic boilers.

Key Accomplishments:

• analysed the effects of the addition of hydrogen on the flames generated by a natural gas burner;

• implemented a model for the heat exchange between the flame, the external environment and the external surface of the burner;

• founded a law that link the temperature on the external surface of the burner to the flow rate and the type of fuel.

2018-2019

Teaching Assistant

Realized a technical feasibility study for the use of CFD
techniques on an oscillating hydrofoil and held a lesson at Pisa University about this project.
Key Accomplishments:
• built a numerical model using a dynamic mesh with UDF and a layering technique to simulate the oscillating motion of an hydrofoil;
• evaluated the performance of the hydrofoil according to the parameters of power-extraction coefficient, drag and
axial thrust;
• held a lesson illustrating the work and the last innovations in the field supported by the professor of the course Energy Conversion and Renewable Energy for the Master’s Degree program in Energy Engineering.
