Although I still find beBee immensely superior to LI, I'm now more open to using the latter too (for specific use cases) and interacting with its users (even if probably the majority of them are fake). Namely, about three weeks ago, ChatGPT made its debut, and before long, it gathered enough traction to outshine its predecessor, GPT3. Since then, many people have started speculating on it and making interesting claims about its capabilities, role in society, business value, and future. Polywork is a relatively new platform that appeals to the emerging kind of professional who is more of a generalist or a versatilist. Its aim is not to brand people as specialists in this or the other field but rather provide a birds-eye view of their lives and the variety of services they offer. On top of that, it urges people to collaborate on various projects and use their social media time productively.

After only a few days on the platform, I've already learned the ropes and made some meaningful connections. There are no articles on Polywork (apart from a few highlights and posts used for SEO purposes), so it is difficult, if not impossible, for some clown to start distracting others with semi-witty comments. The platform is social at heart, but it is also professional, though less rigid than strictly professional platforms like LinkedIn. At the same time, you will not find cat pictures or videos there, like on the Meta network.

My introduction to Polywork came from an entrepreneur from LA who I had never met before I discovered him through Brave. Although he isn’t the only one talking about the merits of the platform on YouTube, he is the one that helped me decide to join it and do so in a committed way. Even though he has his own company, he does content creation on the side, which is most likely why he found value in Polywork. Interestingly, he was also one of the early adopters, considering that the platform seems to have come about around one year ago, shortly before he published his video.

The connection process on Polywork is similar to most platforms today, with following as a way to get the other person’s posts on your feed. There are no “friends” per se, though everyone appears to be quite friendly and open to feedback (e.g., some developers showcase their applications there, others their websites, and some people invite you to brainstorm). In addition, there are a few AI assistants that assist with onboarding. As of this week, the “clubs” feature is making its debut, enabling the creation of groups for bringing people with common interests together.
