The Human Technopole (HT) is a new interdisciplinary research institute in Milan, Italy, created and supported by the Italian government whose aim is to develop innovative strategies to promote human health through a multidisciplinary and integrated approach, combining genomics, computational and structural biology, neuroscience, and data and decisions sciences.

HT has the mission of conducting cutting-edge research but also to translate innovation into methods and tools available to the entire National scientific community.

To this end, HT is opening National Facilities that will provide state-of-the-art research infrastructure for Structural Biology, Light Imaging, Genomics, Genome Engineering, and Data Handling and Analysis.

The Human Technopole Foundation is seeking a Laboratory Automation Specialist to join the National Facility (NF) for Genome Engineering. The primary objective of the NF for Genome Engineering is to establish a disease modeling platform enabling the provision of a wide range
of services in stem cell biology, differentiation and genome engineering.


Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Developing and validating the translation of manual cell culture protocols into automated workflows on liquid handling equipment;
  • Executing and monitoring automated workflows to support the generation and maintenance of 2D and 3D cell cultures;
  • Optimizing and troubleshooting methods for robotic liquid handling of complex cell biology techniques;
  • Directly interacting with Facility team members to develop innovative solutions for the automation of manual workflows;
  • Maintaining the robotic platform equipment and foster a fruitful interchange with equipment manufacturers.

Mandatory Requirements:


  • Master's degree in biology, biotechnology, biomedical engineering or engineering or related field;
  • 2+ years of work experience in laboratory automation;
  • Ability to write and optimise scripts on automated liquid handling platforms (Hamilton, Tecan, Beckman);
  • Good knowledge of English.

Preferential requirements

  • Experience in the development of laboratory processes, from conceptualization to implementation;
  • Basic experience in cell culture techniques.
