Quality Assurance Technician


Job Purpose:


As the Quality Assurance Technician, you will ensure the implementation and the continuous improvement of the BWFS Quality Management System according to the ISO9001:2015 certification requirements, with particular focus on the overall Supplier Quality Assurance function for assigned product lines and its respective suppliers; and for the evaluation and development of strategic suppliers, and continuously improving the quality of our supply base.


Responsibilities:


  • Drive and ensure suppliers are held accountable for meeting continuous improvement initiatives both from a strategic and tactical perspective including lead time reduction, flexibility to schedules, quality improvement, and cost reduction on year over year basis.
  • The individual must understand the manufacturing processes (casting, forging, machining, fabrication, assembly) and be able to interface in a positive manner with management and team members of all levels to achieve the organization's objectives.
  • Assist the Supply Chain team in evaluating & selecting new suppliers.
  • Support new Product launch, Supplier Transitions & Engineering Change Management
  • Oversee the supplier certification program. Ensure supplier report card process is in place. Generate appropriate performance metrics and drive resolution of issues.
  • Develop and drive department projects such as reducing the need for incoming inspections, vendor to stock improvement, putting in place a program for certificates of material/product/process compliance and a rigorous supplier audit/evaluation program.
  • Develop and document supplier quality programs: control and processing of nonconforming material, supplier metrics, corrective actions, service levels, product safety and environmental stewardship and supplier improvement goals
  • Execute the incoming quality control programs including the following: Sampling plans, Check and control plans, specifications, inspection methods, disposition determination, and corrective actions.
  • Conduct training with suppliers in quality tools & techniques and the difference between quality and productivity.
  • Develop and implement systems which enable the record and chargeback of costs associated with supplier failure.
  • Develop and maintain supplier quality database to track suppliers: process capability, certification levels, critical part characteristics, and additional requirements not specified by the drawing.
  • Proactively work with Supply Chain Team to identify and implement improvements within supply base new supplier/product development, new supply chains, existing supplier quality enhancements, etc.
  • Plan, develop and monitor supplier performance improvement plans
  • Communicate and uphold quality expectations from suppliers participate in dispute negotiations.
  • Travel to facilities to review and enhance their effectiveness and capabilities, as necessary.
  • Key Metrics include: DPPM, Cost of poor Quality (Rework $, Material write off), annual supply base audit compliance percentage, supplier OTD
  • Support updating, improving, creating and deploying internal standard procedures, according to BWFS Quality Management System and have an active role during certification audits

Key Requirements:

  • 23 years of experience in SQE field and have experience with the audit of supplier quality system.
  • Certification in a lean methodology a plus
  • Knowledge of or handson experience in manufacturing processes such as casting, forging, fabrication and machining is required.
  • Ability to read technical drawings.
  • Capability to practically execute quality controls and checks on mechanical parts
  • Demonstrated track record of significant improvement in supplier product quality.
  • Capability to facilitate problem solving and risk activities on a cross functional team
