Organizational Setting
The Animal Production and Health Division (NSA) promotes and facilitates the sustainable development of the livestock sector, integrating scientific, technical expertise and policy advice.
The assignment is located in the Sustainable Animal Production, Feed and Genetics Branch (NSAP).
The branch generates information and manages knowledge, facilitates the development and implementation of innovative solutions and provides technical expertise to improve productivity, efficiency and resilience of livestock production.
The activities of the branch cover all production systems, from pastoralism to industrial, including crop-livestock integrated systems; and aim to enhance their sustainability.
Close coordination with the Development Law Service (LEGN) will be ensured on matters related to animal production legislation.Reporting Lines
Under the direct supervision of the NSAP Animal Production Officer, and in close consultation and collaboration with the Development Law Service (LEGN) on matters related to legislation, as well as with relevant colleagues in FAO HQ and decentralized offices and partners, the incumbent will support NSAP's work related to the organization of governing bodies' meetings, technical meetings, and policy and regulatory matters.
Technical Focus
Given the Division's mandate to support countries in transitioning to a sustainable livestock sector, taking into account the diversity of livestock production systems, and to small-scale livestock producers, including pastoralists, women, youth, Indigenous Peoples, and people in vulnerable situations, to improve their livelihoods and resilience, it is necessary to organize international events, to prepare meetings of governing bodies, and to reflect their inputs in corporate documents.
The technical focus of this assignment will also address the need for combined livestock policy and legal expertise to support countries with the development and revision of national legislation.
Tasks and responsibilities
- Support all the activities related to the preparation and organization of technical meetings and governing bodies' meetings, including logístical aspects;
- Prepare and review reports of internal and external meetings, proceedings and other technical and policy documents;
- Support projects design, management and coordination, involving different relevant technical units, as well as regional, subregional and national FAO offices;
- Compile and analyze any data/information related to project implementation;
- Support the organization of training activities;
- In collaboration with LEGN, support the development of documents and the implementation of technical support projects in areas related to animal production legislation, including feed, animal identification and traceability and animal genetic resources.
- Perform any other duties in agreement with the Animal Production Officer.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
- University degree in Biology, Agriculture, Animal Science, Veterinary Science, International Relations, Law, or other relevant field.
- At least one year of relevant working experience in the field of policy matters, including some experience in animal production.
- At least one year of relevant working experience in legal analysis.
- Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese or Russian.
