Join our Internship Programme to Combat Diseases Together:

Objectives and Execution Methods

The intern will be part of the IT Molecular Biology & Bacteriology function, specifically the Antigen & Antibody Design and Expression group.

The intern will support the antigen expression platform, which will be expressed as recombinant proteins in _E. coli_.

In particular, they will be involved in the development and optimization of new systems for the expression of outer membrane proteins using molecular biology techniques and genetic engineering of Gram-negative bacteria.

_

They will also be involved in all stages of work:

  • Collection of requests from various projects
  • Seed storage and clone registration in dedicated databases
  • Bacterial culture growth and verification of protein expression
  • Report writing

Skills the intern will develop through the internship experience

The intern will have the opportunity to learn the most advanced molecular biology techniques for protein expression in _E.

coli_, both through episomal expression and stable genomic integration.

The intern will explore all techniques applied to the antigen production process such as: generation of recombinant _E. coli_ strains, DNA manipulation, quantification of protein expression levels, small-scale purification.

They will also learn to use bioinformatics tools to evaluate the biophysical characteristics of antigens, such as amino acid composition, isoelectric point, hydrophobicity, and molecular weight, and tools for structural analysis and sequencing, all essential information to define the best approach to take during construct design and expression.

Duration: 1 year

Start Date: September 4 or 11, 2023

Why You?:

Basic Requirements:

  • Degree in Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, or similar.
  • One of the required qualifications is having developed university experience in the manipulation of _E. coli_ for the expression of recombinant proteins during thesis periods or other previous internships.
  • Preferably required: skills in generating _E. coli_ mutants (knockout and complementation).
  • Good written and oral English skills

Preferred Requirements:

  • Demonstrate being an enterprising and curious person.
  • Relational and teamwork skills
