Organizational Setting


The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) supports the transformation to More efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agri-food systems, for Better production, Better nutrition, Better environment and Better life, leaving no one behind.

The Office of Communications (OCC) is responsible for both external and internal communications of the Organization. It aims at making FAO's communications strategic, coherent, focused and impactful, while ensuring effectiveness and efficiency in communication-related operations.


Reporting Lines


The Consultant/PSA.SBS will report directly to the Chief of the Digital and Multimedia Branch (OCCI) and collaborate with Officers of FAO divisions.


Technical Focus
Video editing, digital and multimedia content production, lighting and videography, assets management


Tasks and responsibilities

  • Lead collaboration with digital editors and producers to create compelling multimedia stories and communications products to achieve communication goals.
  • Coordinate the distribution of multimedia materials to news broadcasters and digital media platforms.
  • Keep abreast of technological and stylistic developments in videography, including recording and lighting equipment, lenses and editing software, music and stock footage libraries and video editing techniques, including graphics.
  • Coordinate with colleagues the development of a content management system (DAM) which incorporates FAO's video, photo and digital assets under one system
  • Build FAO's capacity for visual communications by increasing the quality of video and photo assets in the FAO's digital asset management system (DAM) and promoting the production and use of assets, which meet professional standards.
  • Support the management of FAO audio/video/photo archives, and the proper safekeeping/preservation of historical audiovisual and photo material.
  • Assist in providing advisory support and guidance to Country Offices, Regional Offices and other FAO offices on production including standards, formats and storytelling.
  • Support management of outsourced production houses, agencies, experts and vendors to create topquality multimedia assets.
  • Research and edit visual assets for use on websites, social media and other digital platforms and publications.
  • Assist, as needed, with video and photo equipment inventory, replacement, and procurement.
  • Assist, as needed, with videography and in support of FAO's mission and executive leadership.
  • Fulfil various production, postproduction and studio management roles, as required.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • University degree in communication, social science, journalism, political science, management or a related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in creative digital video production and postproduction. Experience in a news environment highly desirable. Experience in the production/postproduction of advertising spots / public service announcements highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge (level C) of English and limited knowledge (level B) of another official language (Spanish, French, Arabic, Chinese or Russian). For PSA, working knowledge of English.
