PostDoc Position in Land Modelling

We are seeking two highly motivated postdoctoral researchers to join our Earth System Model (ESM) team, focusing on developing hydrological and biogeochemistry processes within the Community Land Model (CLM). The researchers will have flexibility to work across several projects, aligning their scientific expertise with the division's scope.

The successful candidates will contribute to addressing critical challenges in model development, including improving parameterization, implementing new processes, and coupling multiple Earth system components. They will be responsible for the effective and timely development, implementation, and assessment of land hydrological and biogeochemical processes.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Postdoctoral Researcher in Land Biogeochemistry Modelling

• Develop and implement biogeochemical processes in CLM;
• Improve nitrogen cycle processes within CLM;
• Update carbon emissions produced by CLM;
• Conduct land-only and coupled global simulations;
• Investigate the impact of Land Carbon Dioxide Removal on climate.

1. Postdoctoral Researcher in Land Hydrology Modelling

• Develop and implement hydrological processes in CLM and river routing scheme;
• Improve soil hydrology scheme and processes such as leaching;
• Implement freshwater transport of nutrients from land to ocean;
• Evaluate water cycle variability and its impact on the climate system.

Requirements:

• PhD in physics, climate science, environmental science, applied mathematics, or equivalent subjects;
• Excellent written and oral English language skills;
• Ability to work independently and in teams;
• Advanced computer literacy and programming skills;
• Data analysis and processing using tools like Python or MATLAB;
• Experience working in High Performance Computing environments.
