The Position

SPA MANAGER

Main purpose:


The Spa Manager directs and supervises all aspects of wellness, supports the team day-to-day and ensures the flawless running of service in all areas of spa and fitness.

Ensures that departmental goals and targets are achieved and creates an environment where Team Members are motivated and encouraged to exceed guest expectations.


Reports to:
Hotel Manager.


Main duties & responsibilities:


  • Sets clear goals for Team Members and provides support to ensure these are achieved.
  • Plays an active role in the forward planning for the department, with a key emphasis on both long term strategy for the department and short term operational requirements.
  • Undertakes and checks departmental briefings and handovers of shifts, making sure that communication is flawless.
  • Ensures effective cooperation within the department, as well as with other departments.
  • Supports the team with their daily tasks and functions, where necessary.
  • Participates and contributes to all relevant meetings (e.g. Daily morning meeting, Feedback meeting, Head of Departments' operational meeting, etc.).
  • Ensures that regular onthejob training is delivered and Team Members understand what is expected of them.
  • Utilizes internal and external resources to boost career progression of all Team Members.
  • Carries out job interviews for the spa department.
  • In conjunction with the Hotel Manager, prepares and implements budgets and analyses sales figures, ensuring all relevant information is discussed and passed on to Team Members.
  • Ensures all forecasts and timesheets are submitted in a timely manner to the relevant department.
  • Checks that all monies, floats and billing procedures are implemented exactly as detailed in the SOP manual by Team Members in the department.
  • Keeps abreast of the newest trends and innovations in the wellness industry. Has a strong knowledge of the local hotel and spa market to ensure competitiveness and development of the department's service as a leader in its field.
  • Creates ongoing inhouse promotions and activities to stimulate sales.
  • Maintains a strong menu of services with both exceptional artistic and aesthetic value.
  • Respects the grooming guidelines and regulations.

Competencies required:

  • Team Management & Collaboration: be a role model for team work, reward and encourage positive team play, within the department and with other departments. He/she will engage the Team Members, with a open communication, regular feedback and promoting a culture of trust, honesty and respect.
  • Communication: communicate effectively and in an appropriate manner, using the most suitable channel and tailoring the approach to the audience. He/she takes ownership to initiate communication. He/she shares information across the business in a timely manner to inform better decisions.
  • Personal effectiveness & Emotional intelligence: Selfawareness and selfcontrol are a must. Able to establish mutually beneficial relationships with others. Set clear goals and expectations and identify clear priorities. Meet deadlines and complete tasks and projects successfully.
  • Business orientation: Create an understanding amongst the team of how department performance impacts the business. Create action plans to improve performance when not meeting company requirements. Use understanding of the business to identify ways to increase revenue, reduce costs and minimise general expenses without affecting the quality of service to Guests.
  • Self & team developer: enthusiastic supporter of learning and development. Inspire and motivate others to achieve superior performance and to take on new learning opportunities. Discuss, plan, track and support own and team development and professional growth.

Other requirements:

  • Fluent in Italian and English;
  • Professional experience as Spa Manager; international experience preferred;
  • Preferable evidence of selfdevelopment through specialized courses, conferences/workshops;
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety provisions at international and national level;
  • PC literate.
