    Job Description

    Research and development Engineer contributes to the design and development of new products, the redesign and maintenance of existing ones, the research and testing on product concepts.

    The Engineer takes part to the product development from the concept phase, through the design phase, to the final validation phase, working in strict collaboration with other departments (Quality, Procurement, Operations, etc.), ensuring:

  • constant alignment of the developed products to the requirements identified;
  • delivery of reliable tests and technical documentation
  • The role is responsible for design, develop and test mechanical and optical components for complex opto-mechatronic devices such as Scanners, Sensors and Safety products.

    Main Responsabilities:

  • Carry out detailed mechanical design activities including 3D modelling and 2D drafting, tolerances analysis, simulation (eg thermal & stress), design verification and prototyping
  • Verify and demonstrate the compliance of the design to the specifications
  • Collaborate with other inter-functional team members (System Engineer, HD Designer, Optical Designer)
  • Co-design with suppliers during design for manufacturing stage
  • Works closely with operations, manufacturing and production engineers to ensure products are designed for being manufactured
  • Highlights all mechanical technical risks to the Mech. Engineering Manager and System Engineer
  • Develop appropriate test and procedures to prove the correct operation of developed parts/systems
  • Find innovative solutions and submit patent proposals
  • Design effort and delivery time estimation
  • Create accurate Bill of Materials
  • Ensures design files and technical documentations are kept up to date, and stored in accordance with departmental procedures
  • Collaborate with Mech. Engineering Manager and Systems Engineer and support sustaining activities of existing products during product lifecycle.
  • Qualifications / Requirement:

  • Education: Degree in Mechanical Engineer
  • Languages: Fluent Italian and English
  • Experience: 4+ years of experience in Design of mechanical parts for mechanical/electronic/optical appliances, instruments, complex products. Experience and knowledge with plastic/metal materials and all production processes (injection molding, die casting, cnc, laser cutting etc.) including pre-qualification tests.
  • Other Information and Specific Skills:

  • Knowledge in using 3D CAD (Siemens NX Preferred) systems and Microsoft office tools;
  • Use of FEM SW (MSC Nastran SW Preferred), CFD SW (preferred Ansys Icepak or Ansys Fluent);
  • injection molding/diecasting/cnc processes and related design best practice/applicable standard and norms;
  • Deep and wide knowledge of design principles and process issues concerning thermoplastic and metal materials is the natural background of this job.
