GPS Head - Rosia

This is a site-based role at Rosia, Siena.
A new and truly exciting opportunity as the GPS Head position at the Rosia site.


Our GSK Production System (GPS) is the way we improve processes at GSK, and while much progress has been made in the past few years our ambition is to broaden the impact to improve performance in all aspect of our manufacturing operations.


The Head of GPS is, as a member of the Leadership Team, co-responsible for the MPUs results, and acts in strong partnership with the Site Head and may act also as deputy.

(S)he leads the strategy deployment efforts across the Site, cascading strategic imperatives and Hoshin methodology to align with VET strategic imperatives.

(S)he supports the business strategy and MPUs objectives by improving process efficiency within the MPUs by embedding the GlaxoSmithKline Production System.

In this role you will:

  • Lead the LT to ensure
    effective strategy deployment and wide engagement
- through the Hoshin process development and deployment
- ensuring prioritisation of programs and projects in line with the strategy and deployed goals and objectives
- ensuring personal and team objectives are aligned with strategy

  • Lead and coordinate strategic
    performance management (Business Performance Review, Management of Simplification and Value-Added Improvement Projects and MPU performance indicators) to monitor delivery of transversal and local plans.
  • Lead the Site in its pursuit towards Operation Excellence, and support the Site Leadership Team with the identification and realization of CIFs, DMAIC projects and other improvement initiatives, both with financial and nonfinancial targets
  • Lead the GPS transformation and acceleration across departments, teams and production areas, implementing new bestknown methods for GPS and coaching LT and all direct reports to realise the cultural change through GPS.
  • Define, build and maintain the required Lean and Six Sigma Capabilities in the Site, and ensure appropriate means for coaching and mentoring of line managers and trained experts during the execution of their projects
  • Lead the team of GPS 'Practitioners' and builds capabilities within the team
  • Implement the capability plan as agreed by the regional GPS team and GPS network
  • Advocate and demonstrate GPS skills, mindset and behaviours during daily contacts with the Leadership Team, the Line Management and the teams 'on the floor' through coaching and mentoring, and by leading and facilitating Kaizen Events and Problem Solving Sessions

Why you?

Required qualifications and skills:


  • Bachelors/Honours degree, or equivalent, in science or engineering discipline
  • Significant experience in Pharmaceutical/Biotech or FMCG Industry, including experience in manufacturing and or Quality Ops and continuous improvement
  • Held a number of leadership positions in a manufacturing environment covering a broad range of activities and operations (e.g. Production, Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Safety)
  • Six Sigma Black Belt
  • Lean Black Belt

Preferred qualifications and skills:


  • Master Black Belt/Lean Master qualification
  • Possess strong leadership, scientific and business acumen, and ability to manage multiple priorities, timelines and ensure compliance to all GSK policies.
  • Demonstrated leadership of Continuous improvement initiatives and cultural change year on year resulting in both financial and nonfinancial benefit and behavioral change
  • Diagnostic capability to identify improvement opportunities
  • Excellent communication skills and influencing abilities at all levels in the organisation
  • Capable of providing and acting on balanced feedback to develop self and others
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively across a matrix environment and navigate without formal authority to deliver on business results
