    WHO WE ARE

At IIT we work enthusiastically to develop human-centered Science and Technology to tackle some of the most pressing societal challenges of our times and transfer these technologies to the production system and society. Our Genoa headquarter is strictly inter-connected with our 11 centers around Italy and two outer-stations based in the US for a truly interdisciplinary experience.

    YOUR TEAM

You will be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where physicists and materials scientists collaborate, each with their own expertise, to carry out common research.

The position is hosted between two Research Lines at IIT, led by Prof. Liberato Manna and Dr. Giorgio Divitini.

The Nanochemistry Research Line (Manna) has world-leading expertise on the synthesis of nanocrystals for optical applications and has several active projects on halide perovskites and other inorganic materials.

The Electron Spectroscopy and Nanoscopy Research line (Divitini), has extensive experience in Electron Microscopy technique development and application.

The research project is aimed at developing new perovskite-based nanocrystals to integrate in scintillators for space applications, and is funded by the Italian Space Agency (ASI). Three researchers will be involved in this project, between IIT and the University of Milan – Bicocca. The position advertised here will focus on the synthesis and advanced characterization with Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) of the perovskite materials and the perovskite/matrix composites.

The Nanochemistry laboratory features a wide selection of equipment for the synthesis of organic and inorganic nanomaterials, as well as their characterization using optical and X-rays methods.

The TEM studies will take advantage of a newly installed ThermoFisher Spectra 300 S/TEM equipped with an "ultimono" monochromator, capable of an energy resolution better than 30 meV, image and probe correctors, and a Continuum+K3 GIF. The group will also further data analysis using and developing software routines for analysis of large datasets.

Within the team, your main responsibilities will be:

  • Synthesis of perovskite-based nanomaterials within an established facility
  • Use of Electron Microscopes (including an aberration corrected TF Spectra 300 S/TEM) employing 1) low dose TEM/STEM imaging 2) monochromated EELS, 3) diffraction-based imaging
  • Data analysis and preparation of scientific outputs
  • Reporting to the funding body (ASI)
  • This research position is financed by grant ASI – Giornate Spazio 2022 – Project SNAPS.
