One postdoctoral positions in "Cortical mechanisms of spatial representation in children with and without visual impairment"

YOUR TEAM
The successful applicant will join an interdisciplinary team based at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia in Erzelli, Genoa, Italy, and conduct research within the Unit for Visually Impaired People (U-VIP)

Research Line (Principal Investigator:
Monica Gori).

The research will happen in a fully equipped laboratory, supplied with many multisensory technologies, EEG, EGI, motion capture, and eye-tracking devices, in a group with a variety of competencies ranging from engineering to neurophysiology, statistical experts, cognitive neuroscientists, and experts of rehabilitation.

The human brain is highly plastic, able to modify its structure and functions to adapt to changes within the body or in the external environment.

How spatial representation develops is still unclear. We have recently demonstrated that blind children have problems on many audio spatial processing.

The goal of this post doctoral position theme are:

- studying spatial development from infancy to childhood.
- studying development of spatial representations with EEG technique.
- studying the relationship between spatial processing and sensory-motor skills.
- understand how space representation develops in absence of vision.

The research for this Postdoctoral position will involve:

Work on the EEG and behavioral experiments with typical and visually impaired children and infants.
Human cortical models, programming, human signal, and motor processing.
Neurophysiology and psychophysics
Design of experiments, testing, and data analysis in humantools interaction settings.
Collaborate with clinical centers
Elaborate Statistic models

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

PhD in neurophysiology, neuroscience, cognitive psychology, modeling, computer science, psychophysics, or related fields;
Ability to communicate proficiently in English (written and spoken);
Experience in EEG
Experience in data analysis, modeling, and statistics

ADDITIONAL SKILLS

Experience with children
Knowledge of programming languages
Experience with psychophysical measurements, Bayesian models
