Indirect Tax Manager


We are searching for a VAT / Indirect Tax Manager to report to the European Indirect Tax Senior Manager (located in Poland) and become a key member of the Global Tax team in GSK.


This opportunity will suit an experienced VAT SME looking to join a growing international group and develop a long-term career.


Acting as a European Indirect Tax Manager (mainly Italy, but also other European countries), the role should focus on supporting the business to achieve its strategic priorities, like managing VAT risks, providing advisory for M&A transactions and business changes, providing expert guidance to the compliance and process teams to ensure that operational controls and procedures are fit for purpose, and risk is appropriately managed.


This role will be based in the Italy (Verona) and will work closely with the national, international, and global peer groups and leadership teams across multiple disciplines including Finance, Legal, and Commercial teams.

Here's a sample of what you will get up to:

  • Optimize the Group Tax Position, by delivering VAT hard benefits (including cash and P&L) across European region, mainly Italy.
  • Support the business to achieve its strategic priorities, including providing advisory for M&A transactions and business changes, including the requirements/forthcoming requirements to register for VAT across European region, mainly Italy.
  • Protect GSK's reputation by managing risks for Indirect Taxes in Italy, including the management of VAT audits and litigations, and the respective report to the Local Finance Teams and Global Taxes Team.
  • Work with our Tax Compliance Partners, Finance and GSK's Statutory Compliance Service to understand compliance issues and maximize the efficiency of the service delivery.

Act as the main contact for Italian queries in relation to VAT aspects, working with Finance, external advisors, and tax authorities where relevant.

  • Review new commercial agreements such as customer and vendor agreements, tax indemnifications etc.
Basic Qualifications

  • Master's degree in finance & accounting, or related
  • Experience in indirect tax roles (at least 5 years)
  • Fluent English (minimum C1)
  • Strong tax technical knowledge
  • Experience in large and complex organization
  • Very good stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proven ability to identify and resolve problems, demonstrable critical thinking capability.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Tax Advisor
