ROLE SUMMARY:


THE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF MILAN is seeking a Librarian for a role which will commence in January 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter.

  • We are an IB continuum school (PYP-MYPDP): therefore, independent research is a very important aspect of our curriculum for older students, and our library contains a good mix of fiction and nonfiction books, as well as being a researchhub for our older students.
    Our school
  • Founded in 1958, IS Milan caters for over 900 students from more than 60 nationalities. Our campus, which opened in September 2013, incorporates a theatre, swimming pool and fullsize gymnasium as well as specialist classrooms, labs, libraries, arts and music areas. All of our sections are fully authorised for International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes
  • Primary Years Programme (PYP) from Kindergarten to Grade 6; Middle Years Programme (MYP) from Grades 7 to 11; Diploma Programme (DP) in Grades 12 and 13. IS Milan is the most established IB world school in Italy and regularly exceeds global averages in the IBDP. In addition, we opened our Boarding House in 2018, which has added immensely to the sense of family at IS Milan.
    The Role
  • The Secondary Librarian is responsible for overseeing all processes for the Secondary Library. This involves keeping records of stock, labeling books and other resources, and managing resource orders. The Secondary Librarian ensures an appropriate system for the cataloguing, loaning and return of books, keeping order throughout the Library. The Secondary Librarian is also responsible for maintaining a quiet environment at all times, ensuring that the Library is appropriate for private study. The Secondary Librarian may also be required to assist with other whole school tasks on occasion, including assisting staff as necessary with the ordering of resources.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Key responsibilities are expected to include:
  • Controlling the library environment at all times, to maintain a constant level of quietness;
  • Assisting and advising students with their research work in the library as required;
  • Appropriately managing students to ensure compliance with library regulations;
  • Working with teachers to ensure appropriately managed Library Lessons when required;
  • Loaning out and returning books and resources;
  • Returning books and resources to their corresponding shelves and in a rigorous order;
  • Researching new resources to include in the library collection, assisting staff with purchases when required;
  • Ensuring new books and resources are appropriately labeled and registered;
  • Controlling any materials which may be age specific;
  • Recovering books which are damaged, and disposing of books and resources which can no longer be used due to wear and tear;
  • Informing the administration department regarding nonreturned books;
  • Keeping an inventory of current stock;
  • Ensuring appropriate subscriptions to magazines and other resources;
  • Attending relevant training courses as and when required;
  • Working with students and staff to support understanding of reference cita
