Scientist Protein Biochemistry
in the Biochemistry Function Mass Spectrometry
& Protein Structure Lab, Bacterial Vaccines Research, Italy**The Biochemistry Function operates in the GSK Research Bacterial Vaccines Scientific Area focusing on the identification, design and characterization of vaccine antigens and monoclonal antibodies.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for the conception, design, implementation, and interpretation of experiments related to protein purification and characterization, including mass spectrometry, and structural analysis in support of vaccine and antibody discovery and early development.
  • Ensures timely data collection, reporting and publication in area of responsibility (including contribution to internal/external technical documents and presentations)
  • Ensures implementation of highest ethical standards, good scientific practices & data integrity in daily research activities
  • Takes appropriate actions to communicate issues affecting research strategy and progress in area of responsibility and contributes to identify and implement potential solutions.
  • Represents own Lab at technical project teams/meetings.
  • Can supervise students.
  • Follows established Health, Safety and the Environment policies. Actively participates in training, hazard identification and other HS&E programs.

_ Basic Qualifications:
_


  • PhD degree in Life Sciences or Chemistry (or MSc/BSc and corresponding experience) plus at least 1 year of experience in the biochemistry fiel
  • Experience in protein purification and biophysical analysis
  • Experience in protein mass spectrometry and structural biology ideally including proteomics and/or HDX-MS, footprinting, crosslink and/or X-Ray crystallography.
  • Good knowledge in computational methods and bioinformatics
  • Trackrecord of scientific publications in peerreviewed journals, scientific presentations at conferences
  • Fluency in English, spoken and written.

  • Use your technical expertise to support the discovery and optimization of vaccine targets and internal platforms.
  • Understand, interpret, and clearly communicate scientific data.
  • Understand GSK function operating procedures and internal policies required to maintain high quality standards and regulations, and to protect the Company Intellectual Property
  • Demonstrate agility and ability to learn new methods and ways of working to thrive in a rapidly evolving industry.
  • Have good team player capacity to interact with colleagues from a multifunctional environment, operating in a complex matrix organization.
