Duties:


  • Works alone or a group performing a variety of tasks involving the maintenance and repair of grounds, buildings and structures. Duties require the use of trade practices associated with carpentry and painting as well as using motor vehicle operations
  • Carpentry: Measures, cuts, constructs and/or repairs wood, composite building materials, and wood. Uses tools as hammers, chisels, handsaws, planes,screwdrivers, and glue guns, power saws/sanders/drills
  • Electrical/Plumbing: As needed, replaces worn or broken wall switches and outlets. Replaces ceiling light and/or burned out bulbs. Repairs faucets, resets toilets, and lavatories. Performs other easily accomplished repairs.
  • Laborer: Loads and unloads heavy boxes, bulky supplies, and materials to and from trucks, dollies, etc.; moves boxes/cartons by hand or dolly; opens crates and boxes ; stacks boxes. Moves and arranges furniture. Shovels snow from sidewalks and path.
  • Vehicle Operation: May be required to drive vehicles up to and including a 5ton truck to move furniture, etc., to various buildings on the installation

  • Subject to satisfactory completion of all preemployment checks in accordance with AR 2153, and favorable completion of a Tier 1background investigation is required.
  • Physical Effort: The worker makes repairs and installations from floor level, ground level, and from ladders. Work requires standing, stooping, bending, climbing,crawling, and kneeling for extended periods in uncomfortable positions.
  • Worker may lift and move materials weighing up to 40 pounds and,occasionally heavier items with assistance.
  • Working Conditions: The work will be performed both indoors and outdoors. Exposed to dust and dirt. The worker may be required to perform in bad weather when having to work outdoors.
  • The worker will be exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises, burns, and broken bones from falling objects or when working on ladders or driving a motor vehicle.
  • A health assessment is required.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license to operate assigned government vehicles
  • The employee must maintain a current driver's license while in this job.

Qualifications:


  • Ability to communicate in English at a level to assure the duties described can be accomplished in a safe and satisfactory manner.
  • Demonstrated skills in successfully operating standard tools
  • Experience in accomplishing the types of duties described in this job

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

Must have a working knowledge of wood working techniques and basic shop mathematics.

Must be skilled in use and operation of common hand and power tools and measuring devices of the carpentry and painting trades to perform a variety of tasks.

Must have a knowledge of standard surface preparation and coating methods and techniques. Must have ability to read and follow basic blueprints and sketches. Must have skill in manipulating controls of a motor vehicle.

PCS Costs

  • Payment Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government's interest.

FWS Allowances and Differentials

  • This is a federal wage schedule (FWS) position.
  • All FWS employees are entitled to overtime work for work in excess of 8 hours in a day or in excess of 40 hours in the administrative workweek, whichever provides the greater benefit to the employee.
  • Regular fulltime, regular parttime (to include those in a limited tenure appointment category) and regularly scheduled flexible employees are entitled to Sunday premium pay when working Sunday shifts. A FWS employee will be paid a night shift differential of 7.5% for the entire shift when a majority of the employee's regularly scheduled nonovertime hours of work occur between the hours of 1500 and 2400. A FWS employee will be paid a night shift differential of 10% of the scheduled rate if a majority of the employee's regularly scheduled nonovertime hours of work occur between the hours of
