The Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies (RSCAS) is an inter-disciplinary research centre at the
heart of the European University Institute (EUI). It was established in 1992 to complement the four EUI
disciplinary departments (Economics, History and Civilization, Law, Political and Social Sciences) with the aim
to be involved in both basic and policy research, collaborate with other centres of excellence in Europe,
provide opportunities for young scholars and promote dialogue with the world of practice. The Centre's goal is
to maintain an environment and support structure that fosters intellectual curiosity and excellent research. The
research agenda of the Centre is currently guided by three major themes: Integration, Governance and
Democracy; Regulating Markets and Governing Money; and 21st Century World Politics and Europe.


Employment details

Contract type Part-time (25/30, 33 hours and 20 minutes/week)

Length of contract 22 months, start date or soon after)

This contract may be further renewed (several times and conditional to the
availability of funds), leading to an extension of the period of service up to a total of
5 years, including the first contract period.


Salary indication and Grade:

The basic net monthly salary after taxes is approximately 2390 Euro, plus

allowances if applicable.

Project details Global Initiative on the Future of the Internet (GIFI)

Through a mix of policy support, research, and outreach activities with carefully
selected target groups, coupled with peer-to-peer knowledge sharing and
engagement, the GIFI project aims to contribute
to promoting the Declaration

for the Future of the Internet (DFI) and supporting the implementation of its

principles, in a multi-stakeholder and rights-based approach. It will contribute
to promoting the DFI and its specific commitments globally, support the
implementation of the DFI principles in the signatory countries through
engagement of the multistakeholder community, and explore options for
mainstreaming the promotion and implementation of the DFI principles through
other EU external actions. To achieve these objectives, the Action will focus on

three main pillars of activities:
policy support
(pillar 1), multistakeholder**
dialogue (pillar 2), and
outreach and communication (pillar 3).


Job description
The research assistant will provide research assistance to Project Director(s) of
the project


Main tasks include:

  • Supporting the implementation of the project alongside the Project
Directors;

  • Researching and analysing on DFI related topics;
  • Being responsible for the Latin America region;
  • Being responsible for ITU and regional organisations;
  • Coordinating relations with the technical community.

Qualifications and experience

Qualifications and Essential:


Experience

  • MA in Political Science, International Relations, Economics, Social
Sciences or in a field relevant to the post;

  • Proven experience in working on EU cyber and digital policy and diplomacy
projects;

  • Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing engagement
strategies with EU partner countries and stakeholders at national, regional,
and multilateral levels; including through dialogues, conferences,
workshops and UN side events;

  • Proven experience with collaborative research projects and analysis on
cyber and digital policies in EU partner countries using qualitative and
quantitative research methods;

  • Demonstrated knowledge of with the actors, processes and activities of the
broader multistakeholder internet governance community, including at the
United Nations acquired through previous experience;

  • Experience in drafting reports and other relevant policy documents.

Desirable:


  • Proven experience in financial and nonfinancial project reporting;
    :
  • Demonstrated experience in development and organisation of events.***
    Languages Excellent knowledge of English, both spoken and written (CEFR level: C1 or
above). Knowledge of other languages constitutes an advantage.
