The Global Information Technology (IT) Department of Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) is actively working on rationalising and streamlining the diverse technological landscape within the Group.

This ongoing initiative bears many aspects and lead to many projects mobilising the overall workforce of the company.


Environmental Sustainability Manager:


The position is in charge of supporting the Sustainability Senior Manager to oversee and enable the implementation of the Sustainability Plan (with a predominant focus on environmental impacts) and coordinating activities at local level to ensure compliance with national/international standards and industry best practices consistently with the MSC Cargo Division Sustainability Strategy.

He/she directly contributes to assuring environmental topics are promoted as part the MSC Cargo Division's business agenda and progressively integrated across all areas of the business.

In particular, he/she will be in charge of identifying and accounting for the diverse range of the environmental impacts of the MSC Cargo Division.

He/she will continuously research and evaluate evolving ESG trends and legislation, with a global perspective; stay informed regarding emerging sustainability issues and best practices; identify opportunities for collaboration and assist with development of policy recommendations.

He/she will work jointly with relevant departments across the entire Division and contribute to the determination of carbon reduction and other environmental impact targets along the lines of science-based initiatives and the monitoring of the distance to target over time.

He/she will actively represent MSC in collaborative platforms, industry associations and other key stakeholders focussing on sustainability and environmental issues.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Liaises with all relevant company departments and legal entities within the MSC Cargo Division to contribute to the progressive embedding of environmental topics across all business areas including the control of the supply chain.
  • Supports all relevant company departments and legal entities within the MSC Cargo Division to ensure supply chain impacts meet sustainability international standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Contributes to sustainabilityrelated risk management and compliance activities, supporting risk mapping as well as the definition of the mitigation approach against identified risks (focus on environment and supply chain) under the framework of the Enterprise Risk Managements system (ERM).
  • Takes part in relevant activities related to the mitigation of environmental impacts (including biodiversity and circular economy) as well as adaptation to climate change.
  • Coordinates and oversees projects and activities related to the implementation of the sustainability plan.
  • Analyses the possible impacts of EU and international environmental legislation on MSC business, understands and contributes to designing actions to comply with regulatory requirements related to environmental impacts, identifies opportunities for public funding (e.g. decarbonization projects).
  • Contributes to the projections of future carbon emissions across the MSC Cargo Division based on current asset portfolios, newbuildings as well as energy efficiency measures. Supports to and oversees the setting of near
- mid
- and long-term carbon reduction targets in line with science-based initiatives (e.g. Science Based Targets). Monitors and contributes to internal reporting on MSC's performance across the environmental dimension and distance to target.

  • Acts as the main point of contact for MSC within collaborative platforms, industry associations with specific reference to environmental topic matters.
  • Assists in the development and publication of annual Sustainability Report and collaborates across departments and businesses to develop relevant contents (focus on environmental impacts).
QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION

  • University degree (Engineering or Economics a strong plus), advanced degree valued.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in relevant Sustainabilit
