Associate Director, DP Process Engineering:


We are looking for a scientific leader to head a Process Engineering Drug Product (DP) Development unit, whose mission is to drive Drug Product process development, including formulation, filling and lyophilization.

Located in Siena, Italy, the position will play a significant role in shaping current and next generation GSK's technology for DP manufacturing.

This role will report to the Head of Drug Product Process Engineering and provides the opportunity to integrate a diverse group of talented scientists, lead key activities and further grow and progress in your career.


Your responsibilities:


  • Scientific leadership of a multidisciplinary team with ~810 direct reports including formulation, filling and lyophilization experts
  • Partnering with various external parties by sharing information and resources across multiple levels to establish new programs as well as academic collaborations.
  • Integrate and strategically influence a complex stakeholder network, while balancing Development and Manufacturing needs
  • Manage, coach and develop this team having high performance, operational excellence, flexibility and agility at its core
  • Lead strategic initiatives, both encompassing the immediate team, as well as large employee events/meetings fostering collective working across multiple teams/groups.

Why you?:


Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • PhD in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Bioengineering with specialization in RNA biology, chemistry or similar
  • 10 years' experience in biotech or biopharma
  • Demonstrated experience being a people's manager, capability to influence senior leaders, lead in complex dynamic environments, critical & strategic thinking, fast decision making and adaptability
  • Excel at complex problem solving through critical thinking using knowledge gained through formal education, experience, and sound judgment, and foster this as a culture within the team.
  • Extensive experience developing and transferring Drug Product processes, from early clinical phases to latestage and commercial manufacturing.
  • Track record demonstrating the use of modeling and other _in silico_ tools to improve process understanding and accelerate development.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • End-to-end vision of vaccines product and process development and biomanufacturing of nucleic acids, recombinant proteins, glycoconjugates and other biologicals.
  • Knowledge of the relevant regulatory environment, particularly FDA/ICH/ISPE guidelines on risk management, technology transfer and process validation.
