WHO WE ARE

  • At IIT we work enthusiastically to develop humancentered Science and Technology to tackle some of the most pressing societal challenges of our times and transfer these technologies to the production system and society. Our Genoa headquarter is strictly interconnected with our 11 centers around Italy and two outerstations based in the US for a truly interdisciplinary experience.

AstraZeneca is a global, science-led, patient-centered biopharmaceutical company focusing on discovering, developing, and commercializing prescription medicines for some of the world's most serious diseases.

But we're more than a global leading pharmaceutical company.

At AstraZeneca, we're dedicated to being a Great Place to Work and empowering employees to push the boundaries of science and fuel their entrepreneurial spirit.

YOUR TEAM
The
_GENOMIC SCIENCE__ _Research Line is coordinated by Dr.

Francesco Nicassio, who has extensive experience in
_Genomics__ and _
_Non-Coding RNA biology__._ The lab is engaged in a number of projects in areas of cancer genomics, development and stem cells focusing on the role of noncoding RNA transcripts.

Importantly, our research activity is based on the integration of
Experimental models with
Computational methodologies, pointing out the reciprocal regulation of coding and non-coding RNAs.

You will also join AstraZeneca (AZ) department of Functional Genomics within Discovery Sciences.

The Functional Genomics department supports the discovery of novel drug target hypotheses harnessing the power of functional genomics screening and validation.

The department is responsible for the identification and validation of novel targets to support AstraZeneca's clinical pipeline through use of cutting-edge technologies and approaches.

You will join an extraordinary team with a track record of delivering portfolio impact.

We are seeking a Postdoc scientist to establish a robust workflow to identify key novel pharmacological non-coding targets (e.g. enhancers, long non-coding RNAs) involved in the regulation of cellular networks and disease-oriented.

The project is shared between the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT, PI:

Francesco Nicassio, coordinator of the Center of Genomic Science in Milan), and AstraZeneca (AZ, PI: Alessandro Bonetti lab, Principal Scientist of Functional Genomics, Cambridge), thus uniquely benefiting from both a research institute and an industrial environment.

The project is focused on Human Cancer (triple-negative breast cancer - TNBC) with three main tasks:
i) Identification of relevant RNA-DNA interactions at genome-wide level by RADICL-seq;
ii) Data Integration with existing OMICS dataset;
iii) Functional analysis, focusing on non-coding elements and exploiting cutting-edge approaches (i.e. pooled and arrayed CRISPR-based tools).

The two teams (IIT - Nicassio, AZ - Bonetti) have considerable expertise in the field and are fully capable of supporting the feasibility of both the technical and technological aspects of the project.

Furthermore, both labs have a proven track-record in RNA biology, non-coding mechanisms and developing data-analysis strategies to study the function and regulation of non-coding RNA molecules.

  • Within the project, the
- activities (25%) and computational analyses (75%), as follows:

  • Characterize the role of the non-coding RNAs in genomic context and in regard with triple-negative breast cancer biology, integrating multiple multi-OMICS dataset. This task will be performed with senior members of the hosting labs and exploiting datasets already available at the II T
  • Nicassio lab.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A degree in a Natural Sciences discipline, such as Biology, Biotechnology, Genetics, Mathematics, Physics, or similar.
  • Documented experience in molecular biology and genomics: theorical or practical knowledge of NGS technologies, CRISPR methodologies, RNA manipulation.
  • Experience in the analysis of genomics data
  • Good data analysis skills and a basic understanding of statistics
  • The ability to properly report and organize data
  • Good command in spoken and written English
  • Teamworking ability

EXTRA AWESOME

  • Experience on R or Python.
  • Good level of knowledge of noncoding RNAs biology.
  • Experience with CRISPR competition screens.
  • Strong problem solving attitude.
  • Spirit of innovation and creativity.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a highly interdisciplinary environment.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Competitive salary package for international standards
  • Private health care coverage
  • Wide range of staff discounts
