Human Technopole (HT) is a new interdisciplinary life science research institute, created and supported by the Italian Government, with the aim of developing innovative strategies to improve human health.

HT is composed of five Centers:
Computational Biology, Structural Biology, Genomics, Neurogenomics and Health Data Science.

The Centers work together to enable interdisciplinary research and to create an open, collaborative environment that will help promote life science research both nationally and internationally.

About the Lab:

The Sottoriva Lab in the Computational Biology Research Centre at Human Technopole combines computational and experimental techniques to study cancer genomics and evolution.

Our goal is to measure the evolutionary process in human cancers, predict the future course of the disease and uncover the mechanisms of drug resistance.

We use a combination of spatial and longitudinal data from patients and patient-derived model systems, evolutionary theory and machine learning, to measure cancer biology.

We are now looking for a motivated
Bioinformatician to analyse and help with the interpretation of novel datasets from colon cancer patients we have generated in our lab.

The objective is to measure and predict evolutionary forces using a combination of single-cell multiomic data and longitudinal circulating tumor DNA profiling, and correlate evolutionary measurements with clinical information to understand why and how tumor progression and treatment resistance occur.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Analyse and interpret data in light of tumour evolution, using and developing stateoftheart methodologies and technologies.
  • Integrate data generated in the lab with existing datasets.
  • Help with the design of new methods and approaches, based on evolutionary theory and/or machine learning, to measure evolution from data.
  • Think independently, providing scientific insight and drive projects forward and explore new avenues of research.
  • Closely follow technological developments that could benefit the lab.
  • Aid in the sharing of data and the reproducibility of bioinformatics analyses.
  • Interact within the Computational Biology Research Centre with other computational researchers, technicians and experimental core posts for data generation and analysis, as well as across HT with other genomics and bioinformatics posts.

Mandatory requirements:

- +2 years of hands-on experience in cancer genomics and bioinformatics.

  • Fluency in English
  • HT is an international research institute.

Preferential requirements:

  • Experience in the analysis of large datasets.
  • Experience in the analysis of singlecell data.
  • Experience in cancer genomic profiling analysis for personalized medicine.
  • Proven track record demonstrating the independent leading of projects.
  • Solid programming skills in R and Python, overall excellent computational skills and troubleshooting, and experience with machine learning.
  • Familiarity with using and improving bioinformatic pipelines and experimental data quality control.

Other competencies:

  • Ability to interact effectively with other teams and work synergistically to drive projects forward.

Application Instructions

To apply, please send the following:

  • CV.
- a motivation letter in English relating your track record to the specifics of the call.
- names and contacts of 2 referees.
