    mhca, the premier national association of leading behavioral healthcare organizations, has engaged The Meyers Group to guide the search for their next President and Chief Executive Officer upon the retirement of Dale Shreve in early 2025.

    The Board of Directors is seeking a President & CEO to inspire and nurture current and future mhca members to advance innovation and entrepreneurship in behavioral healthcare by enhancing leadership and strategic organizational and professional connections focused on the development of c-suite executives through exceptional association leadership.

    The Organization Next year, mhca (Mental Health Corporations of America, Inc.- ) will celebrate 40 years leading its members in their commitment to remain "best of class" and to play active roles in the transformation of our healthcare system through dynamic leadership and the delivery of effective community health solutions.

    mhca's current 152 members represent 34 different states and include a diverse array of organizations from local community mental health centers to regional, multi-service behavioral healthcare providers and both regional and multi-state integrated healthcare systems.

    They have contributed to every major advancement in clinical, administrative, and financial practice in recent decades and are at the forefront of the expansion of CCBHCs and other systemwide improvements in access to care, reducing health inequities, and collaborating with community and national partners to address social determinants of health.

    mhca is a 501(c) 3 organization that is governed by a 19-member Board of Directors.

    The Role The President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for leading mhca, under the guidance of the Board of Directors, through the development and execution of a strategic plan that focuses on developing C-Suite executives through the delivery of a wide range of services, supports, and other resources that are valued by Members.

    Cultivating and maintaining Membership development and engagement strategies and maintaining sound business and financial practices that sustain the organization in pursuit of its mission are the cornerstones of the CEO's work.

    The President/CEO manages a current operating budget of $2.1M, hires or contracts for staff and services as needed, and supervises all mhca staff.

    Our Ideal Candidate Will be a proven leader who can inspire, motivate, mentor, and communicate effectively with the membership.


    Should have a demonstrated understanding of current healthcare policy, an understanding of the critical role behavioral healthcare plays in our healthcare system and have a track record of strategic analysis of the needs of an organization and of delivering results around those needs.


    Must maintain advanced interpersonal skills capable of balancing the recruitment of new members, retention of existing members, and passionately nurturing the mhca membership base to make strong agency to agency connections.


    As the face of mhca, the CEO must reflect the values of the organization and communicate them effectively to diverse audiences including member CEO's; vendors to behavioral health organizations; leaders of allied healthcare organizations.


    Must be passionate about the mission of behavioral health and have a strong commitment to the quality of services provided to individuals served in the behavioral health industry.

    He/she must have a strong business and personal set of ethics.
    First-hand knowledge of mhca, gained as a member of the "family" (members, staff, vendors, etc.), is highly desirable.

    A Master's degree is preferred plus leadership experience in a complex healthcare environment.

    The CEO may choose to work from the current corporate headquarters in Tallahassee, FL or from a U.S. location of her/his choosing.
