    CNC Machine Operators are part of the Spare Parts Machine Shop and use a variety of machine tools or special purpose equipment according to production specifications. Work from drawings, route sheets, specifications and instructions to determine operational sequence. Set tools and select and set speeds and feeds according to type of material and finish requirements. Also perform duties associated with receiving, routing, and storing materials.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Verifies conformance of machined work to specifications using measuring instruments such as: calipers, micrometers, and fixed or telescoping gauges.
  • Reads and interprets machining instructions, job orders, and blueprints to determine dimensional specifications, sequences of operations, setups, and tooling requirements.
  • Selects and sets cutting speeds, feed rates, depths of cuts, and cutting tools according to machining instructions or knowledge of metal properties.
  • Ensures safety operating procedures are followed throughout projects.
  • Utilizes and interprets specifications specific to project needs.
  • Calculate complex dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and Vernier calipers.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations. Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines. Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
  • Works closely with other Engineering, Field Service, and Production team members.
  • May lead, guide or mentor other team members.
  • JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • High school Diploma or qualification in mechanical or technical subjects
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a CNC Machine Operator
  • Mechanical and technical skills Knowledge of how CNC machine tools work
  • Ability to configure CNC machine settings
  • Ability to read technical drawings and blueprints
  • Ability to use key measuring tools
  • Attention to detail and methodical approach
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Analytical skills
  • Knowledge of how to load programs into CNC machines, entering initial settings (e.g. selecting parameters, positioning material and zeroing the machine), loading workpieces into the machine, monitoring machining operations
  • Ability to intervene in the event of malfunctions, breakdowns and machining errors
  • Finishing workpieces and performing quality control checks
  • Performing minor maintenance tasks to ensuring CNC machines function correctly
