American Modern Insurance Group is looking for a Director, Accounting Progress Improvement to join our team The Director will support the Accounting Department by identifying process improvement opportunities and driving change activities in pursuit of continuous improvement in core financial accounting and reporting processes.

You will be responsible for management and monitoring of financial accounting and reporting process improvement projects; development and monitoring of controls and documentation to support the Statutory and IFRS financial accounting and reporting activities; researching technical topics and developing documentation to address accounting issues as needed; and serving as the Accounting Department representative on company-wide initiatives that support the AMIG business strategy.

American Modern Insurance Group offers flexibility with our hybrid work environment. Employees are typically in the office 40-50% of the time to allow for face to face collaboration. We are located in Amelia, OH, a suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio.


Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Leads process improvement projects within Accounting by bringing knowledge of property & casualty insurance company processes and functions, including understanding of Statutory and IFRS accounting and reporting requirements, to achieve goals and drive changes that result in increased quality and operational efficiency.
  • Performs ongoing assessments of the entire Accounting and Controllership process to determine if improvements are needed. Drives group discussions on process improvement, control execution, and documentation as part of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, and offers suggestions on quality and efficiency improvement opportunities.
  • Performs and documents accounting research for new and nonroutine transactions to determine Statutory and IFRS treatment. Assists with training and communication of new accounting pronouncements and process changes by leading the development of training content and memos.
  • Leverages technical and insurance industry knowledge to assist in developing accounting processes and provides financial analysis to support key accounting interpretation decisions relating to the adoption of new guidance or changes in business circumstances.
  • Provides ongoing daytoday support with Statutory, IFRS, Solvency II, ESG, Accounting Operations, regulatory, and compliance issues and assists in the review of deliverables.
  • Accountable for ensuring that policies and procedures are in place and regularly updates with focus on standardization and compliance.
  • Acts as the Accounting Department liaison for internal and external stakeholders for investments, tax, business process outsourcing, internal/external audit, and risk management activities.
  • Completes special requests from Finance and Accounting Senior Management for analysis, research, issue resolution, or other projects as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 10 years or more of accounting, internal audit, or financial statement audit experience
  • 5 years or more of insurance industry experience
  • 5 years or more of management experience
  • CPA Certification
  • Previous experience with process improvement, quality control concepts, risk assessment, technical research, and project management experience

  • Public Accounting or Large Corporate Accounting/Internal Audit Experience
