About the Institute:

Human Technopole (HT) is a new interdisciplinary life science research institute, created and supported by the Italian Government, with the aim of developing innovative strategies to improve human health.

HT is composed of five Centers:
Computational Biology, Structural Biology, Genomics, Neurogenomics and Health Data Science.

The Centers work together to enable interdisciplinary research and to create an open, collaborative environment that will help promote life science research both nationally and internationally.

About the group:

His group is focused on liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) phenomena and their function in regulating cellular processes and diseases.

The Erdmann lab uses biochemistry and structural biology techniques with a focus on cryo-focused ion beam milling and cryo-electron tomography to investigate LLPS "in situ", i.e.

within living cells.

As such, the lab's goal is to establish a "biopsy at the nanoscale" thereby expanding the currently used techniques from single cells to tissues.

Your main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Conduct molecular biology, biochemistry and cell biology experiments.
  • General lab management and organization such as placing orders and maintaining key resources of the lab (reagents, tools, etc).
  • Generate data and document the results for later publication.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to (junior) lab members, including teaching of new techniques and providing support in the use of lab equipment.

Mandatory requirements:

  • Minimum four years of proven practical experience in a molecular biology, biochemistry or structural biology laboratory and minimum B.Sc. degree in the respective field.

  • Fluency in English

  • HT is an international research institute.
  • Autonomy in cell culture of mammalian, insect, and bacterial cells.
  • Experience in standard wet lab techniques such as cloning, protein production (mammalian, bacterial, insect), affinity purification, immunoprecipitation, ELISA, westernblot analysis, etc.
  • Knowledge of biophysical techniques for the study of protein stability prior to SPA and STA (e.g. DLS, ITC, etc.).

Preferential requirements:

  • Active understanding of structural biology pipelines for tomography and/or single particle.
  • FIB/SEM, and/or organoid culture are considered highly beneficial.
  • Data processing, analysis, and visualization for structural biology.
  • Experience in confocal light microscopy.

Organizational and social skills**:

  • Ability to adapt to competing priorities and to work independently.
  • Ability and interest to learn or develop new methodologies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills the role of the lab technician will be a cornerstone of the lab (being the "gotoperson" of the lab) for the years to come
  • Ability to work in a multicultural, multiethnic environment.
