POSITION SCOPE


Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Plant Electrician/ PLC Technician applies electronic theory, principles of electrical circuits, electrical testing procedures, engineering mathematics, physics and related knowledge to layout, build, test, troubleshoot and repair production equipment.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Engages in the installation, maintenance, adjustment, calibration, repair, and replacement of plant instrument systems, including those designed to measure, record, and control the temperature, pressure, and level.
  • Supports team projects and process improvement activities as directed.
  • Ensures cleanliness of equipment, tools, and personal workstation.
  • Assembles experimental circuitry of complete prototype models according to engineering instruction, technical manuals, and knowledge of electronic systems and components and their functions.
  • Prepares technical reports for documenting issues or changes to equipment.
  • Checks newly installed equipment to evaluate system performance under actual operating conditions.
  • Observes functioning of installed equipment to detect hazards, problems, and the need for service, repair and/or replacement of electrical, electronic, and mechanical components.
  • Discusses performance issues and improvement ideas with pertinent technical staff.
  • Performs responsibilities in accordance with federal, state, and company safety policies and practices.
  • Operates forklifts, scissor lifts and hoists as required.
  • Works various shifts and overtime to complete work as needed; ability to be on call to support production needs.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulics with the ability to take voltage, amperage, OHM, pressure and/or flow reading in accordance with ladder and schematic diagrams and determine values.
  • Ability to read, interpret and understand electronic and electrical schematics.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to general safety procedures in manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with mínimal supervision.
  • Ability to make effective, quick decisions while following company policies.
  • Understanding of instrumentation and calibration principles.
  • Must have an analytical disposition, along with a willingness to adapt to and lead change.
  • Ability to balance team and individual responsibilities, contributing to a positive team spirit.
  • Demonstrates mechanical aptitude.
  • Must be able to read, write, and comprehend the English language (i.e., the language of all plant directives) for required document control, equipment operation, and supervisor/peer instructions.***
    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Associates Degree or Technical Certification in relevant program, or combination of education and related work experience is required. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Technology or similar preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience within electronics field.
  • Washington State 07 Electrical Journeyman License or ability to obtain license preferred.
  • Documented proficient working knowledge of Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC's, controls and RS Logix 500/ 5000 programming is required.
  • Experience with 3 phase, 600V (480V) volt systems.
  • Ability to program and troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), solidstate temperature controllers and computerbased controllers.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with the National Electrical Code, especially as it relates to classified locations.
