YOUR TEAM


You'd be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where where computational scientists (Machine Learning, Computer Vision, image processing, big data and high-performance computing), material engineers, chemists, physicists, and archaeologists collaborate, each with their own expertise, to carry out common research.


The Center for Cultural Heritage Technology (CCHT) in Venice is coordinated by Arianna Traviglia, who has extensive experience in mediating the inclusion of technology within the study and management of cultural heritage and in cultural landscape management.


The Laboratory Technician of the Centre for Cultural Heritage Technology is responsible for the regular maintenance and running daily operation of the laboratory and relative equipment (optical microscopies, ageing chambers, centrifuges, hoods, and hyperspectral camera) and for the purchase of new lab equipment and chemicals.

Overall lab supervision and safety responsibility, with great emphasis on co-workers' safety management, is the core tasks.

In addition, the introduction training of PhD students and postdocs in health and safety and novel equipment technical operations is an essential part of the tasks.

An active attitude in keeping up with new developments in nanomaterials particles and/or polymers is important.

Within the team, your main responsibilities will be:1) Coordinate Health and Safety (H&S) matters:

  • Ensure Health & Safety compliance for all operations and spaces of the laboratory.
  • Oversee storage and disposal of hazardous chemicals.
  • Ensure that the laboratory is compliant on with all risk assessments and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) forms and that all other relevant documentation is completed and maintained.
  • Assist the H&S management in the risk assessment process,
  • Ensure that relevant Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is used where appropriate when required.
2) Provide general technical support for all laboratory activities:

  • Carry out day-to-day maintenance of laboratory equipment, e.g. balances, vacuum pumps, hoods.
  • Maintain general laboratory supplies and stocks, e.g. solvents, chemicals, vials.
  • Ensure general tidiness in the laboratories.
  • Supervise users when working in the laboratories.

3) Maintain the laboratory databases:

  • Maintain databases of equipment, chemicals, etc.
  • Maintain data libraries, databases and user manuals associated with instrumentation.
  • Use of booking and finance tool (SAP) for purchasing chemicals and equipment.
4) Coordinate and oversee IIT contractors and engineers for purchasing the instrumentation or infrastructure of the CCHT laboratories.


ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Master's degree (or equivalent qualification) in Chemistry, Materials science, Chemical Engineering or related scientific discipline.
  • Knowledge of Laboratory specific Health & Safety matters.
  • Knowledge of a range of analytical techniques and control software.
  • Significant Experience in synthesis of nanoparticles, nanomaterials, nanotechnologies, and polymer science.
  • An interest in learning recent advances in nanotechnologies and polymer chemistry science.
  • Familiarity with the main IT software packages, including Word, and Excel, and Teams.
  • A cooperative approach with the stakeholders
  • Accuracy and good analytical skills
  • Good command of spoken and written English
