Overview of the role
We are looking for a Material Engineer to collaborate in the Lead Fast Reactor (LFR) material design activities, Materials Laboratory, and experimental facilities, focusing-on new materials design, post-processing and qualification for fuel elements, reactor internals, pumps, and steam generators with particular reference, but not limited to, operation in molten lead.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Alloys design for bulk and surface advanced materialbased solutions.
- Use of main metallurgical codes for thermodynamics, kinetics and precipitation and diffusion modelling in selected material prototypes.
- Ensure the definition, followup and execution of R&D actions applied mainly to LFR materials, in particular structural steels.
- Define, supervise, and operate extended materials characterization programs, at the laboratory and fullscale level (e.g., simulators), for both bulk and surface solutions.
- Preparation and participation in kickoff meetings, review meetings, design meetings and studies.
- Knowledge of the main surface and nanotechnology to develop innovative coatings and thinfilm deposition processes and composition.
- Proven knowledge of the main metallurgical production processes and technologies.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary scientific and technology teams.
- Coordinate assigned work with other technical personnel as directed.

Desired qualifications
Education:
- Degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, Materials or Chemical Engineering.
- Degree in Materials Science, Chemistry or Physics.
- A Master's or PhD is considered an added value.
Languages:
- Fluent Italian and/or English. Working knowledge of the English language is mandatory.
- French is a plus.
Professional requirements:
- Knowledge and use of the main laboratory analytical techniques and relevant metallurgical design codes.
- Ability to participate in team meetings and prepare technical presentations.
- 5year experience in destructive and nondestructive testing.
- Experience in a nuclear or other highly regulated environment and good understanding of safety aspects would be a definite advantage.
- Knowledge in corrosion mechanisms and/or tribology with temperature.
