Human Technopole (HT) is a new interdisciplinary life science research institute, created and supported by the Italian Government, with the aim of developing innovative strategies to improve human health.

HT is composed of five Centres:
Computational Biology, Structural Biology, Genomics, Neurogenomics and Health Data Science.

The Centres work together to enable interdisciplinary research and to create an open, collaborative environment that will help promote life science research both nationally and internationally.

Human Technopole is looking for a Senior Manager of the Genomics Computation Unit for the Genomics Research Centre - Functional Genomics Programme.

The Bienko lab develops both sequencing as well as FISH-based approaches for mapping the spatial arrangement of chromatin in the cell nucleus, combining them in various projects aimed at understanding how the complex higher-order structure of chromatin in mammalian cells is established during the cell cycle, how it is dynamically reshaped during cell differentiation, and how it is rewired during carcinogenesis. The lab is also active in developing advanced computational tools for modelling the 3D genome structure and understanding how structural variants impact the architecture and function of mammalian genomes.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Designing experiments together with the PI and conducting them in concert with other members of the Bienko group and/or in collaboration with other scientists within the Functional Genomics Centre.
  • Generating highquality and reproducible data and recording all her/his experiments and results in a dedicated electronic lab journal.
  • Drafting the research manuscript(s) and figures deriving from her/his own results, aiming at publishing in highimpact, openaccess journals.
  • Working in a highly collaborative spirit, interacting with and supporting all the other group members (especially junior members).
  • Sharing and openly discussing her/his research results with the PI and other group members and with key collaborators in the Centre and/or externally.
  • PhD in the field of genomics/transcriptomics/epigenomics.
  • Broad knowledge in the field of epigenetics/chromatin biology/3D genome organization
  • Expertise in cell culture/transfection/transduction and basic molecular biology/biochemistry (DNA/RNA purification, PCR, reverse transcription, in vitro transcription, cloning).
  • Extensive expertise in at least one of the following NGS techniques: wholegenome and/or exome sequencing; RNAseq; ATACseq; ChIPseq; Hi-C or derivative methods; DNA methylation sequencing, including data analysis.

Preferential requirements:

  • Previous experience with RNAi and CRISPR-Cas technologies.
  • Good bioinformatics skills.
  • First authorship on a publication or a preprint from the field of epigenetics/3D genome architecture.
  • Proven good writing skills (e.g. in a form of a peerreviewed Review piece).

Required personal skills

  • Curiositydriven personality with a strong affinity for basic science and a deep interest in genome biology.
  • Ability to independently organize her/his own work routine and flexibly adapt her/his weekly schedule to emerging requests.
  • Strong problemsolving and forwardlooking personality, i.e., she/he is strongly motivated to solve obstacles that might present on the path to achieving a goal, enjoys troubleshooting, is not afraid of seeking for help, and strongly believes that a solution to a problem can be found even if this means revising the original goal/plan (never compromising scientific rigor and quality).
  • Strong collaborative attitude, i.e., she/he is a strong team player and feels that her/his success will only come from being actively engaged in the group and helping others.
  • Fluency in oral and written English and ability to present her/his work to other scientists/research groups.
