Hauptaufgaben
Incumbent performs excavations for underground utilities lines, backfilling and restoring the area surface both paved and unpaved. Provides assistance to the various trades, such as demolition of concrete and brick walls for the installation of utilities, construction of new platforms for temporary prefabricated buildings, installation of canopies and tents. Erects scaffolding for all trades and troop projects. Repairs and replaces defective storm drains and prefabricated or poured-in-place catch basins. When necessary, operates a pneumatic drill, erects formworks and all required works for the laying of concrete mix. Performs cleaning and policing of all the areas pertaining to DPW, including loading and unloading of refuse construction material, hand transportation of supplies and incidental trash collection. Erects and repairs permanent and temporary fencing, both wooden and metal wire-mesh, including the excavation of foundations, preparation of concrete mix and pouring-in-place fence posts. Operates auto vehicles, motor vehicles and mobile industrial equipment such as small road rollers, tractors with and without front-end loader, grass cutters and mowers, 8-ton commercial dump trucks, pick-ups, telescopic servicing platforms for ground maintenance, motocultivator with attachments, vibrating tandem rollers, forklifts. Loads and hauls gravel, sand, cement, and other materials/equipment. Takes care of efficiency, cleaning and routine maintenance of vehicles, and reports to the attention of the supervisor any damages or defects on vehicles. Is responsible for vehicle dispatched. Completes reports, notes, and makes entries on vehicle log. Assists in snow removal and graveling of icy roads. Performs a variety of tasks of a skilled nature, pertaining to the maintenance of improved and unimproved grounds. In the manner provided by the agronomic techniques, prepares ground surface for seeding by sodding, fertilizing, leveling. Removes manually weeds from flower beds and mows grassed areas with powered equipment (lawn mowers, weed eaters) trims edges both with manual (trim shears) and powered equipment (powered edge trimmers). Plants new trees, bushes, and perennial flowers. By means of ladders and hydraulic lifting platforms, performs pruning works to guarantee trees healthy condition and maintain adequate branch balance. Reports to supervisor any pests and disease affecting trees and bushes. Assists in the performance of maintenance operations required of buildings and structures such as masonry, painting, roofing, and carpentry work.
NOTE: Incumbent may be required to lift heavy items and equipment.
Tour of duty is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 08.00 to 17.00, including a 1-hour uncompensated lunch break.

2. KNOWLEDGE OF EQUIPMENT ASSEMBLY, INSTALLATION, REPAIR, ETC.;
3. TECHNICAL PRACTICES (THEORETICAL, PRECISE, ARTISTIC);
4. USE OF MEASURING INSTRUMENTS;
5. ABILITY TO INTERPRET INSTRUCTIONS, SPECIFICATION, ETC. (INCLUDES BLUEPRINTING READING);
6. ABILITY TO USE AND MAINTAIN TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT;
7. KNOWLEDGE OF MATERIALS.
NOTE: The incumbent must understand and speak elementary English. This includes reading and understanding words and phrases pertaining to daily tasks.
